All Are WelcomeIf you are a newcomer at Church of the Advent, please know that we are thrilled to be together with you. Please know that anyone – no matter their faith tradition – is welcome to sing, to pray, and to receive Holy Communion. And our time together continues in the fellowship hall in the lower level of the church building. ¡Bienvenidos! Welcome!
Getting Community NewsYou can always find up-to-date news and events for the Advent Community here. You can also get timely emails by signing up with Constant Contact here.
ChildrenWe encourage you to bring children of any age to worship. Kids are welcome to remain with their parents/caregivers throughout the service. During the program year (similar to a school year), we also offer Sunday School which takes place in the middle portion of our 10:00 a.m. Sunday Worship. Sunday School sessions are tailored to the age level of the children present.
Map, Directions & ParkingChurch of the Advent is located on the corner of Logan Boulevard and Francisco Avenue in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood. Parking on Sundays is limited to street parking in the area.
Handicap AccessCurrently, we regret to say that the church building is not handicap accessible. Both the Logan Boulevard front entrance and the Francisco Avenue side entrance require a step up to enter, and more steps to access the main floor. Rest rooms are also currently not handicap accessible.
Becoming A MemberMembership at Church of the Advent is a journey. It begins with simply showing up, getting to know one another and building relationships. Membership is shaped by shared worship and fellowship. Membership is strengthened by serving and giving. Membership is a moment of awareness that “I belong because we belong together.”
In addition to this personal and communal membership process, there are official ways of belonging, not only to Church of the Advent, but also to the Episcopal Church.
If you were previously a member of another Episcopal Church congregation, we will gladly contact that church requesting a Letter of Transfer for you. You can initiate this process by contacting the church office at 773.235.1161. (Currently, our church office is open on Friday mornings; we do our best to respond to all office requests promptly.)
If you are coming to us from another denomination or tradition, or from no previous church or background, welcome! Because we are a smaller congregation, we are happy to take the time to connect with your spiritual journey. Together, let’s imagine ways forward in faith and community, whether you are possibly seeking Baptism, want to be received into the Episcopal Church, or are just curious about the life of Jesus.
The Church of the Advent is an Episcopal Church in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, founded in 1901. Our neighborhood has seen many changes throughout the past century, and our mission is integrally linked to serving our dynamic community.
A significant portion of our neighborhood is Latino/Hispanic, and we share facilities and many ministries with our sister congregation, Nuestra Señora de las Americas. Our own congregation is a vibrant blend of ethnicities, racial and social backgrounds, and English and Spanish speakers.
Like all churches, we are a local community; we are also connected to a much larger community of Episcopalians across Chicago’s metropolitan area, Northern Illinois, the nation and the world. Think of it as a family tree. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago (www.episcopalchicago.org) under the leadership of our Bishop, Jeffrey Lee. We are connected to the nationwide Episcopal Church (www.episcopalchurch.org). And we are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion (www.anglicancommunion.org). If you’d like to know more about the Episcopal Church and the Anglican tradition of Christianity, as great resource of information and weekly news is found at www.anglicansonline.org.
